The Iron Range is home to at least ten museums that are often praised for their hands on and diverse experiences! Visitors can ride an electric trolley, view the night sky in the Paulucci Space Theatre or visit the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.

Iron Range Communities & Surrounding Areas

Outside of Voyaguers Retreat, the Iron Range consists of 11 communities, each with their own traditions and attractions. Below are several communities that are most popular among visitors to the Iron Range.

Biwabik

“Biwabik,” meaning “valuable” in Ojibway, is the gateway to Giants Ridge Golf & Ski Resort. Long valued for its iron ore, today Biwabik is a 4-season travel destination. Offering access to nightlife, banking, restaurants and local shops, visitors and residents alike enjoy all that is found within this charming community.

Ely

Well known for its restaurants and shops, Ely is a charming small town community. In the summer, visitors come to Ely to canoe down the Boundary Waters. Ely is also a popular and unique place to visit in the winter when dog sledding rides are available.

Hibbing

Home to the singer/songwriter Bob Dylan, Hibbing attracts many visitors from around the world during the annual “Dylan Days” festival. Additionally, the community is dedicated to telling the story of how American cities were built; this story is the heart and sole of the Iron Range.

Duluth

Located just outside of the Iron Range, Duluth rests on the beautiful Lake Superior. Secluded waterfalls and rock climbing opportunities can be found throughout the city, which is also home to countless annual festivals and events.

Virginia

Full of restaurants, lounges and shops, Virginia is a popular spot for vacationers to dine and stroll. Tours overlooking the vast mining area show off breathtaking views of Virginia’s historic community.

Eveleth

Come to Eveleth to visit the United States Hockey Hall of Fame or the World’s Largest Hockey Stick! Although a Hockey Town, the Eveleth community is stunning, and is home to one of the area’s most magnificent sites, the Leonidas Overlook Mineview.

Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids is a renowned resort community, and is popular for its fishing and natural surroundings. The perfect place for a family vacation, the Grand Rapids community encompasses nature, the arts and relaxation all in one place!
